SCC Meeting Tuesday, August 17, 2010

Meeting called to order at 1:52 pm
I. No minutes to approve
II. Principal’s Update
· Many things are on hold in anticipation of the new principal due in October 1st
· Things in the Works –
· Identify students with failing grades at mid-quarter – if a student has more than one “F”, he/she is given an action plan – for math, afternoon school will be required
· Highest failure rate is in Science
· Use Title I funds to pay PTTs to help struggling students in the classroom and to help in afternoon school
· Need parents to step up to provide transportation for students who will be required to stay after school
· Also trying to provide for the non-struggling student – open enrollment in Honors and A.P. classes – more classes/sections offered
· Need to improve instruction, increase rigor, challenge and motivate our students, and raise commitment of both teachers and students.
· Need to make 10% gain to meet AYP this year. Currently - 39% Math and 69% English
III. Task List:
· Appointments: check contact information
· Mr. Purdue is stepping down – we will need a new parent representative
· We also need a new secretary
· Proposed dates for future SCC meetings – see attached
· First Community Meeting in second quarter – need to talk to PTSA – possible date Monday, October 18, 2010
· Second Community Meeting to be determined by principal’s progress on the AcFin.
IV. Expenditure Plan
· Same as last year – about $100 per Community Meeting for refreshments
· $200 remaining to use at our discretion
V. Survey of Principal’s Survey
· Read and approved by unanimous vote
VI. Reviewed “Building a School Community Council” – SCC Implementation – Timeline Checklist
· We need to determine a procedure for public testimony
VII. Back to School BBQ will be combined with Parent Night to be held on Tuesday, September 14, 2010.
